The impact of potentially toxic substances from abandoned mines on surrounding environments is recognized as a significant environmental problem across Canada. This project will conduct NRCan-led research activities in Nova Scotia, and facilitate the distribution of results to other federal and provincial departments through the Nova Scotia Historic Gold Mines Advisory Committee. In partnership with other federal and provincial agencies, a new study of abandoned mines within a mountain catchment of British Columbia will be initiated to develop a geo-environmental model for a class of ore deposits.
